After a few teases, Aston
Martin revealed the 7.0-liter, V12 Vulcan before its live debut at the Geneva
auto show. Only 24 examples will be produced, making this edition truly
limited. Output, according to Aston Martin, is 800-plus hp.
The engine was developed
in conjunction with Aston Martin Racing, drawing on the company’s GT motorsport
experience. The Vulcan has a lower power-to-weight ratio than the GTE cars that
compete in the World Endurance Championship. Drive is channeled rearward to
19-inch wheels and Michelin tires through a six-speed sequential transmission.
The Vulcan has a carbon
fiber monocoque and body built by Multimatic, a limited-slip differential and a
magnesium torque tube with a carbon fiber prop shaft. Brembo calipers and
carbon ceramic racing brake discs slow things down.
The track-derived pushrod
suspension gets Multimatic’s Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers, antiroll
bars front and rear and variable traction control.
All 24 buyers will be offered
a chance to train with Aston Martin pros through a handful of events using the
One-77, V12 Vantage and GT4 race car, gradually building to the Vulcan. Le
Mans-winning driver Darren Turner will be just one of the racers on hand.
“We will be running a series
of exclusive track-day events commencing in 2016 that will offer the
opportunity for these customers to explore their driving capabilities, and the
car’s performance potential, on some of the world's most famous and glamorous
race circuits,” said David King, Aston Martin’s director of special projects
and motorsport.
More performance data and
technical details will be available later this year. The Vulcan starts at 1.5
million British pounds, which converts to about $2.3 million or N463.5 million.
