2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid: Two Elegant But Unique Machines

The 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and its version with more powerful and economic engine – the Plug-In hybrid, which were unveiled at Seoul looks like the current 2015 but with some differences which show that this is not common gasoline engine car.


Exterior
Exterior of both 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and its Plug-in companion feature large front grille and uniquely designed bumper. Projector headlamps come standard while HID lights will be optional. The main difference between the two models will be charging port on PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) placed on front fender on driver’s side. Around the back are very nicely designed taillights, aerodynamic rear bumper and hands-free smart trunk which automatically opens when it detect the Proximity Key (within three feet) behind the car.

Interior
Interior of the new Sonata is packed with handy technology which includes standard equipment such as SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth phone connectivity, iPod and USB inputs while an 8 inch navigation system, HD Radio and Infinity premium audio system are optional. For an even more pleasant experience, the interior is covered in leather seating surfaces. When it comes to safety, this car comes standard with seven airbags, Stability control, Traction Control, ABS, rear view camera and tire pressure display. Other functionalities include Lane departure warning, Smart Cruise Control, Rear Parking Assistance, Forward Collision Warning, Blindspot detection and automatic high beam assist which dims lights when it detects oncoming traffic.

Engines
Both of these Hyundai models use the same engine but different technology. They are powered by 2.0L 4-cylinder gasoline engines with GDI. Plug-in Hybrid model is expected to travel 22 miles using only power of lithium-polymer battery, which is placed below the trunk, while regenerative braking system will provide additional energy. The driver won’t notice any change when the car switches to either of these two driving modes. Total power is at 202 horse power at 6,000 rpm.

According to Hyundai, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will be available on the market from Spring 2015, while Plug-In Hybrid version will be available from late 2015.
