Auto Review: The 2016 Acura NSX

The 2016 Acura NSX was unveiled at 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The first NSX model dates back to 1990, exactly 25 years ago, and now it comes completely updated, more powerful and with some serious additions.

Engine
The NSX will be powered by Acura’s first turbocharged engine. Acura has a preference for its VTEC valvetrains rather than turbo- or supercharging its four- and six-cylinder engines in order to boost output. Under the hood will be all new 75 degree DOHC twin-turbocharged V-6 engine which will be paired with 9 speed dual clutch transmission, but the engine is supplemented by three electric motors, one sandwiched between the engine and the nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and one at each front wheel. Acura did not reveal the V-6 displacement or output figures for the engine or the electric motors, but Acura confirmed that total system output will be north of 550 hp.

Exterior
Exterior of the 2016 Acura NSX is very similar to the concept version revealed in 2013 but this production version shows some differences. On first sight, the front of both models is very similar. Large grille on the front is still there but production model features headlamps with six LED units, a thin band of taillamps spanning the width of the car and LED stripe with large air intakes below them.

One of the most prominent changes lies around back where four exhaust pipes are now placed in the middle. The body of this car with very nice and modern design is made in aluminum and Sheet Molding Compound (SMC), includes a flying buttress style C-pillar that drops about halfway down the body side to accommodate the gaping engine-air intake light in weight and rigid.
The ultra-thin-spoke wheels measure 19 by 8.5 inches in front, 20 by 11 inches in back, and are wrapped by 245/35 and 295/30 Continental ContiSportContact tires. Tucked behind them are six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers clamping carbon-ceramic rotors.

Interior
A combination of red, black and aluminum accented surfaces blend very well with all the knobs inside of this car. Instruments cluster features three meters including TFT center master which changes according to Integrated Dynamics System settings while racing designed steering wheel features essential controls at your fingertips.
