If
you have a 2015 Hyundai Genesis or you know someone who has one, this update is
for you. Hyundai is recalling approximately 24,400 examples of the 2015 model
year Genesis luxury sedan worldwide for a water leak issue that could lead to
shifter display problems in the automobiles.
A
weak seal defect may cause water to leak into the taillight assemblies and
cause an incorrect gear display on the gauge cluster monitor, and could also
delay the engagement of the selected gear.
There
is a possibility that drivers could accidentally engage the wrong gear based on
the incorrect information on the display. The taillights are electrically connected
to the gear selector and a weak seal could allow water into the assembly. Good
news is, Hyundai confirms that no crashes have occurred as a result of this
issue.
The
Genesis sedans affected by this recall were manufactured between Feb. 21, 2014
and Jan. 24, 2015. To fix the anomaly requires the installation of pads to
prevent water leaks into the taillight assemblies, and this work will be
performed at the dealer workshops free of charge.
Hyundai
will begin notifying owners of affected cars as from April, but owners can
contact Hyundai directly for more information and updates on the likely dates
for the recall. This is not a reason to panic as Hyundai is well able to provide the Genesis owners adequate support to ensure their automobiles are in top shape.
