Hyundai
Motors Nigeria has completed the distribution of educational enhancing
materials to hundreds of thousands of school pupils across five states in
harmony with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) values of the Korean car
manufacturer of helping the less privileged – ‘Moving the world together.’
Titled
‘Supporting Education for Brighter Tomorrow’, the campaign commenced in phases
with Southwest states of Lagos and Ibadan and afterwards schools in Warri,
Port-Harcourt and Calabar in South-South geo-political zone.
Hyundai
Motors Nigeria Head of Sales and Marketing Jatin Nadkarni described the
charitable initiative as a continuation of the Stallion Group Hyundai
dealership’s magnanimity to support children of the less privileged in basic
schools across the country. Hyundai Motors Nigeria had in 2010 commenced
amplification of support for the less privileged including inmates of old
people’s homes and orphanages, where it had also canvassed halving populations
of children vulnerable to malaria scourge, especially those aged between six
months and five years, representing 52 percent of the country’s populace.
Nadkarni
said: “It has become imperative to bridge the gap between children of the rich
and poor particularly those in basic schools while stimulating the less
privileged children to learn without fear of discrimination.”
He
pledged Hyundai Motors commitment to influencing more children enrollment in
basic schools through the provision of educational support materials such as
school bags, exercise books, water bottles, pens/pencils and mathematical sets
among others. Quoting a recent Unicef report on basic education in Nigeria,
Nadkarni said: “With children under 15 years of age accounting for 45% of the
country’s population, the burden on education and other sectors has become
overwhelming.”
He
thus said: “About 4.7million children of primary school age are still not in
school despite increase in enrollment rates,” remarking that the branded
Hyundai educational materials given to children of the beneficiary schools will
induce others of school age and essentially, assuage the cost borne by their
parents in procuring these fundamental items.”
He
told the school children who congregated for photo shots after receiving their
branded educational materials that “Hyundai Motors has come to greet you, spend
time with you and bring you goodwill message aimed at encouraging you to
embrace learning and don’t be intimidated by polarization which is the essence
of this initiative; Supporting education for brighter tomorrow.”
Hyundai
Motors has since dedicated substantial percentage of her earnings to corporate
social responsibility particularly youth and sports development with education
and healthcare.
