At the beating heart of every F-TYPE is a powerful supercharged engine: 3.0 liter 340 horsepower V6, 3.0 liter 380 horsepower V6 or 5.0 liter 550 horsepower V8. Every one features a Roots-type twin-vortex supercharger, mounted in the "V" of the engine to preserve its compact dimensions.
Jaguar is a leader in the field of supercharged induction technology. Supercharging provides linear power delivery and instant access to high levels of torque at virtually all engine speeds, minimizing the gap between the driver’s demand and the engine’s response.
With eight closely spaced gear ratios keeping the engine in its most effective operating range, the F-TYPE "QuickShift" automatic transmission is both fast and smooth. The gearbox’s control system is intelligent and adaptive. It monitors the driving situation, combined with driver demand, and responds to provide a truly dynamic experience. Intelligent and adaptive software automatically modifies shift strategy, ensuring the right gear is selected for every situation. The transmission can be controlled manually with the standard shift paddles mounted behind the spokes of the steering wheel.
INSTINCTIVE ALL WHEEL DRIVE
The all-wheel drive system on the F-TYPE S AWD and F-TYPE R offers performance with poise, delivering outstanding, confident handling in demanding conditions.4 Available with the "QuickShift" automatic transmission, AWD works with Jaguar’s Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) to constantly analyze the needs of all four wheels independently. It decides exactly where to deliver power to optimize traction and stability.
IDD senses impending understeer or oversteer situations, where either front or rear wheels start to loose traction during rapid cornering, and swiftly deploys more power to the other wheels in proportion to the level of traction they can achieve, maximizing control in the most demanding conditions.
INTELLIGENT STOP/START
Intelligent Stop/Start on the F-TYPE can improve fuel economy in stop-and-go driving. The system can automatically turn off the engine when the car is at rest, such as at a red light, but leaves vehicle accessories like the lights, audio and windshield wipers on. When the driver takes his or her foot off the brake pedal, the system automatically restarts the engine using a specially designed starter motor in as little as 300 milliseconds. By the time you have moved your foot from the brake to the accelerator, the engine has restarted and the car is ready to move.
PERFORMANCE BRAKING SYSTEMS
A range of braking systems are available, each one engineered to deliver confident, progressive feel and sustained, consistent high performance. The front calipers make extensive use of aluminum to reduce the ‘unsprung mass’ of the car, benefiting both handling and ride refinement. Each system features large, ventilated brake discs – up to 380mm in diameter on the High Performance and Super Performance systems. This large ‘swept area’ improves braking force as well as providing greater capacity for the discs to absorb and dissipate the heat energy generated during braking.
TORQUE VECTORING
The F-TYPE R model offers superb handling, feel, grip and controllability. It has all the inherent duality of everyday usability with the character of an out-and-out sports car, putting the emphasis on greater agility and excitement and a crisper, edgier temperament. The F-TYPE R invites enthusiastic driving. Its Torque Vectoring technology is designed to provide controlled braking on the inside rear wheel, at the same time as feeding more power to the outside rear wheel, to help increase steering performance and inspire even greater driver confidence. The system works in conjunction with the Electronic Active Differential and Instinctive All-Wheel Drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics to improve the cornering capabilities and driver control
DRIVER-ORIENTED CONTROLS
Featuring two large analog dials – essential in a sports car – instruments are simple, clear and easy to read. The three-spoke steering wheel incorporates key functions for ease of control. On automatic models, gear selector paddles mounted behind the spokes, let you select gears sequentially with your fingertips, without taking your hands from the wheel. The console-mounted Jaguar SportShift Selector offers full Auto Mode plus a Sport Mode, which allows manual operation for even greater driver involvement.
Sequential gear selection is provided by tipping the lever forward to shift down a ratio, and pulling it back to shift up a gear. The F-TYPE has an 8 inch color Touch-screen that provides intuitive control of many features, including navigation and infotainment systems such as Jaguar In Control and the 770W Meridian Sound System.
