The Ghibli is Maserati’s
best-selling car. Of the almost-15,000 Maseratis sold in the U.S. last year,
two-thirds of them were The Ghiblis. That’s because the Ghibli is the least
expensive of them. That’s in the upper half of what the European auto analysts
refer to as the “high E segment” or what Maserati calls the “authentic sport
executive sedan” segment. See more images after the cut.
The Ghibli S Q4 is powered
by the same engine as the rear-wheel drive Ghibli S: an efficient 3 litre Twin
Turbo V6 that delivers a peak of 410 horsepower (301 kW) at 5,500 rpm and is
credited with a maximum torque, in Sport mode, of 550 Nm at just 1,750 rpm. The
amazing specific torque value of 183 Nm per litre ensures an aggressive
response that will deliver pure excitement with every movement of the right
foot.
The Ghibli S Q4’s exterior
is molded to offer a unique marriage of elegance and sports car verve, drawing
on the best Maserati design tradition: the starting point for its very sleek
silhouette is the distinctive nose, dominated in the centre by the radiator
grille with concave vertical fillets. This is in clear homage to the
GranTurismo and the historic A6 GCS Berlinetta, a famous icon from the past.
The Ghibli S Q4 is
equipped with an innovative “on demand” all-wheel drive system capable of
combining the utmost driving pleasure with absolute safety on all road
surfaces. Normally, it is up to the rear-wheel drive system to transfer the
power of the V6 to the terrain, but if the road surface turns slippery or the
wheels lose grip, the system instantaneously (in just 150 milliseconds)
transfers the necessary drive force to the front wheels. Braking power is
provided by efficient monobloc calipers, with 6 pistons at the front and 4 at
the rear, acting on ventilated, slotted discs of 360 mm x 32 mm and 350 mm x 28
mm respectively.
To
the rear, the tapered design of the boot is the natural continuation of the
cabin, while the two LED lights provide continuity with the mudguards. A look
with a strong emphasis on speed and aggression, underlined by the twin exhaust
tailpipes and the 18” diamond alloy wheels (standard) with a new 12-spoke
design.
The
Ghibli S Q4 accommodates its passengers in a luxurious, comfortable interior:
without detracting from the loveliness of the car’s lines, the long wheelbase
provides occupants with one of the roomiest interiors in the sports sedan
category. The seats, upholstered in soft leather, have wraparound forms and
underline the interior’s sporty feel while guaranteeing top-class comfort.
