Auto Review: "The New 2016 Bentley Continental GT...Luxury Redefined"

Whatever road you choose in life, do it from a position of unparalleled power and control. From the moment your hands grasp the new Continental GT Speed’s sport steering wheel, you’re aware you’re taking control of Bentley’s ultimate two-door coupé. The twin-turbo engine produces an awe-inspiring 635 PS and 820 Nm of torque yet, thanks to the variable power assisted steering – which provides increased economy and reduced emissions – the drive remains precise through the most demanding corner.

The only equal of such limitless power is the exquisite refinement to be found in the Speed’s redesigned cabin, this introduces a more dynamic look to the upholstery, with a smaller, tighter diamond pattern in the semi-aniline hides. If you love to drive far and fast but insist on travelling in absolute luxury, the Continental GT Speed awaits.
With peak power of 635 PS, the Continental GT Speed is the most powerful model in the current two-door Bentley Continental family. A full throttle standing start sees 60 mph flash past in just 4 seconds. Top speed, should you have the opportunity to explore it, is 206 miles an hour.
Yet Bentley’s engineering team has ensured that the GT Speed engine and powertrain is just as fuel-efficient as the Continental GT, with refinements to the engine, transmission and turbocharger making an overall improvement of 13% in fuel economy.
The distinctive Continental GT Speed is Bentley’s fastest and most powerful Continental ever. And it shows. Even motionless, this car has a breathtaking and supremely confident presence. Every last detail, right down to the unique Speed badge, makes no secret of this car’s intent.

EXTERIOR DESIGN
The Continental GT Speed's redesigned front and rear spoiler give fresh expression to the heritage of Bentley grand touring. The matrix grille and air intakes of the Speed are in a dark-tint chrome finish and are matched to equally striking dark-tint front and rear lamps. The dark-tint 21" Speed alloy wheels are unique to this model, and are also available in silver, should you prefer. Large, elliptical exhaust tailpipes feature a rifled interior, while the engine note that emerges from them is deeper and more emphatic.

INTERIOR DESIGN
When you drive a Bentley, leather provides the tactile connection between your hands and the high-performance grand tourer at your command. Smaller diamond upholstery, with a semi-aniline hide option, means the seats are unique to the Speed models and hold you securely under hard cornering. In fact, every soft-touch surface in the cockpit is hand-covered with leather produced using a special, traditional tanning process. Some might consider it excessive to offer a choice of carpet and seat belt colours that is as extensive as Bentley’s range of hides.

PERFORMANCE
The Continental GT Speed represents Bentley performance at its most uncompromising: featuring all-wheel drive transmission, a chassis tune which delivers thrilling agility and a deeper and more exhilarating exhaust note, the GT Speed is capable of devastating acceleration and enduring pace.
ENGINEERING
Bentley's W12 is a remarkable engine, both for its performance and its architecture. Best described as two narrow angle V6 engines sharing a common crankshaft, it delivers the refinement and power of a twelve-cylinder engine whilst remaining compact. Fed by twin-turbochargers, the W12 Speed specification which powers the Continental GT Speed offers a full spectrum of performance from whisper-quiet cruise to snarling full-throttle acceleration.

TRANSMISSION
The eight-speed transmission of the Continental GT Speed delivers both faster acceleration and improved fuel efficiency, with a commensurate reduction in CO2 emissions and increase to tank range. Not only that, it makes a fast car even faster, cutting acceleration times by ensuring that the engine is always at the ideal RPM for peak torque delivery. The transmission's faster, smoother gear changes are perfectly matched by the GT Speed's new gear box delivering the engine's power to all four wheels. Torque is biased toward the rear in a 60:40 ratio, which creates perfect cornering balance and reassuring grip.

SUSPENSION
By bringing the Speed models 10mm closer to the ground, Bentley's chassis engineering team laid the foundation for an even sportier driving experience. To do so they changed the springs, dampers, anti-roll bars and suspension bushes. The result is improved body control under hard cornering, together with greater agility.
TECHNOLOGY
On the right road, at the wheel of the new Continental GT Speed, the 635PS engine, eight-speed transmission and tuned sports exhaust is all the entertainment you'll need. But sometimes you will be in heavy traffic, cruising along a motorway, or simply wish to sit back and enjoy some music. For times like these, the Continental GT Speed's technology has the power to entertain and inform. And with improved overall connectivity options, even more of your favourite devices can connect to the Speed’s onboard systems.
INFOTAINMENT
At the heart of the Continental GT Speed’s touch screen infotainment system is a 30GB hard drive, which offers up to 15GB of storage space for music as well as a continent’s-worth of mapping data. As you drive, it provides real time monitoring of your tyre pressures and access to your phone contacts (either via Bluetooth or by inserting your SIM card). While the 15 Gigabytes of available music space is enough to last you on a round-the-world tour without hearing the same track twice, you can also play music via an iPod, MP3 player, the car’s own six-disc CD changer or even an SD card.
The Continental GT Speed has telephone control with Bluetooth wireless connectivity as standard and WiFi as an option for optimum in-car connectivity.
You can use your MP3 player/iPod in your Continental GT Speed to listen to your favourite music, podcasts or stream films.
Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) speakers, which combine the functions of separate tweeter and mid-range speakers in one unit, direct the sound with accuracy and provide greater clarity across the audible spectrum.
