Nigeria is proud to sponsor ‘TOOLS OF CONFLICTS, an exhibition of artistic
mediums spanning drawing, painting, photography, installation and video by
renowned Nigerian artist Emeka Udemba, where he examines issues of cultural
diversity and memory within the context of globalization - from March 21st to
11th April, 2015 at the Renault Showroom in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Organized
by ArtHouse-The Space, this exhibition profiles Emeka Udemba’s prolific career
including his most recent mixed media work on paper, where Udemba explores the
topic of conflict by questioning the media representation of violence,
suffering and trauma. His works point to
the ongoing animosities in parts of Nigeria and other countries in the world,
‘TOOLS OF CONFLICTS’ examines the role of identity, gender, memory in conflict
and how imagery serves to dictate how history is experienced and written.
Emeka
Udemba was born in Nigeria 1968, lives and works between Lagos and Freiburg,
Germany, has won many prizes and residencies in Africa and Europe. His notable
awards and exhibitions include projects at Palais de Tokyo in Paris, France, a
project grant with Prince Claus fund in the Netherlands and a project grant in
Siftungskunstfonds in German.
