The
Lincoln Continental concept was unveiled ahead of the 2015 New York Auto Show.
The full-size sedan concept is a preview of an upcoming production car that
will go on sale in 2016.
In
remarks to reporters, Ford CEO Mark Fields said that this will be the brand's
flagship and it will introduce the theme of "quiet luxury." AutoGists Blog will bring you more reviews on this superb automobile crafted for 2016 direct from the New York International Auto Show. View more details and photos after the cut...
"Every
Lincoln we introduce must move the brand forward," Fields continued. Moving
forward means leaving the brand's current design themes in the rear view mirror,
as the Continental has a completely new design language compared to the current MKZ and MKS sedans.
The
split wing grille design worn by every recent Lincoln model is gone in favour of
a new treatment that sets a floating emblem in the middle of a polished
aluminium mesh opening. The grille is flanked by headlights comprising a row of
LEDs in the shape of the Lincoln emblem.
Another
notable design cue is the use of electronic door handles that don't interrupt
the smooth profile. Sitting at the base of the side windows, the electronic
door latches pop the doors open when you touch the bottom of the lever.
Although
Lincoln officials wouldn't discuss anything beyond its basic design, they did
confirm that the Continental will be powered by a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V6 that
will not be used in any Ford products. No power figures were announced, but
with rivals like the upcoming Cadillac CT6 offering a 400-horsepower V6 of the
same size, Lincoln will likely offer a similar level of power.
Expect
to see a production version of the Lincoln Continental concept debut early next
year, with sales starting in the fall of 2016.
